Reflecting Readers Realities in Children’s Literature - Farrah Serroukh

Collaboroo blog

CLPE’s Farrah Serroukh blogs about the importance of reflecting realities in children's books in Collaboroo (an online community for the teaching profession).

In the blog she recommends classrooms need to have a range of books that explore themes that are commonly at the forefront of primary aged children’s minds, e.g one's that explore classic childhood anxieties such as fear of the dark and belonging. Also books need to encourage children to reflect and relate and that books should reflect the diverse communities of young readers.
